Youth Director

Accountable To: Senior Pastor 

Works With: Pastoral Staff, Support Staff, Youth students (6th-12th grade), parents, and leaders

 

Purpose: Serve as an important team member of the GVBC pastoral staff, helping to implement the vision and purposes of GVBC.  Provide leadership in youth ministry by ministering to students, parents, and volunteer leaders.

 

General Responsibilities:

 

  1. Implement and advance our mission statement “helping people discover Jesus and become His fully devoted followers” and our vision of passionately pursuing Jesus and growing spiritually healthy from the inside out.

  2. Equip the saints for the work of the ministry for the building up of the Body of Christ for spiritual maturity (Ephesians 4:11-16).

  3. Oversee the Youth Ministry by leading teams, ministries, projects and provide annual goals.

  4. Faithfully steward the finances of GVBC by quarterly reviews and annual preparation of the Youth Ministry budget and related accounts.

  5. In cooperation with the Senior Pastor set quarterly SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-oriented) which shall be evaluated by the Senior Pastor.

  6. Maintain regular accountability and supervision with the Senior Pastor, carrying out additional responsibilities as assigned by him.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

Leadership Development

  • Implement a strategy that fosters the ongoing recruitment, development, encouragement, and evaluation of youth leaders.

  • Lead regular leadership meetings (1-2 per month) that provide both spiritual and practical training to the volunteer leadership team so they can effectively disciple the youth and minister to their families.

  • Ensure that both students and leaders are being equipped for ministry and are consistently using their spiritual gifts to build up the body.

 

Discipleship and Ministry

  • Serve as the primary teacher of God’s Word for our midweek large group program, while also developing the teaching gifts of other leaders.

  • Oversee the Sunday School program for youth, following a well-rounded curriculum plan to disciple the students.

  • Plan, organize, and execute all other youth events such as summer/winter camps, mission trips, fellowship/outreach events, etc.

  • Occasionally partner with other youth ministries for collaboration on fellowship activities, outreach events, etc.

  • Encourage students in their Christian club on campus by speaking or helping when possible.

  • Connect with youth parents through regular contact at church, individual meetings, and Parent Connect meetings, providing resources and support as needed so they can be the primary spiritual nurturers of their children.

  • Integrate the Youth Ministry into the life of the church by partnering with the pastoral staff and other ministries.

  • Work with the children’s and college ministry directors for the transition of graduating elementary and high school students.

 

Administration

  • Maintain the Youth Ministry calendar of events in coordination with the pastoral and support staff, booking room assignments as needed.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with the youth leaders about the details and logistics of regular programs and all special events, ensuring that everyone is on the same page well before the event.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with youth parents about upcoming events through email, website, phone calls, etc.

  • Oversee the Youth Ministry budget and ensure that all receipts are turned in on a monthly basis.

  • Oversee facility and equipment - advocate changes in room space, equipment, storage, cleanliness and improvements that will keep the Youth Ministry current with other like facilities.

 

Other Pastoral Staff Responsibilities

  • Participate in and contribute to worship services, staff meetings, core ministry council meetings, and other leadership gatherings.

  • Help to facilitate the quarterly new membership class as part of GVBC’s assimilation program.

  • Initiate conversations with students, parents, and members of the congregation before and after services every Sunday.

Hours & Pay:

  • Full-time Youth Director:  40 hours, $23-28/hour, full benefits package (vacation, medical, retirement, etc.)

  • Part-time Pastoral Intern:  30 hours, $18.63/hour, no benefit package but church scholarships available for help with seminary tuition
